To get the gems to power up the core, you will need to find and defeat bosses. As you mine your way through the depths, you will eventually find these tough enemies.
Boss order and world exploration are theoretically quite flexible, given this is a sandbox game. There is currently only one solid gate to progress: defeating the first 3 bosses. Which separates this guide into two parts.

Aside from selling supplies, the Bearded Merchant sells items that can be used to re-summon certain bosses such as all giant slimes and Ghorm; you simply need to purchase these items and place them on the boss' rune to get them to reappear. Feel free to farm the bosses for fun and profit if you want!

Still being early access, there isn’t much of a tutorial, or, like, any tutorial at all, so be on the lookout for little visual cues to learn how to interact with things. Different icons will become highlighted and let you know how to open various other menus, so if Core Keeper Gameplay you’re trying to do something and not having much success, just take a second to see if the game is desperately trying to tell you to press E instead of angrily clicking away.
Screenshot by Bonus Action To feed cows and other animals in Core Keeper, move a crop to your active item slot so that you’re holding it. Once your character is holding a crop, the animals will approach. They’ll keep eating until you run out of crops or switch them out of your active slot.
No complicated mini-games here. Just hit the interact button again when an exclamation point pops up, and you’ve got yourself a fish.
That might mean having to gather more resources just to fight your way back in and recover your property.
Pretty much all enemies spawn based on the tiles placed on the ground. If you remove them, enemies won't spawn in that area any longer. Each type of tile spawns different kinds of enemies; you can collect these tiles and place them down elsewhere in order to make monster farms.
